Organizing Electronic Files (5S) for Time Savings Workshop
Instructor: Brion Hurley
Location: The Conference Room, HatchLab PDX
Date: June 5, 2017 from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM PST
You will learn about a workplace organization technique called 5S, a proven methodology and approach to reduce storage space, reduce retrieval time, and remove frustration from your work.
The 5 S’s represent:
*Sort the needed from not needed
*Simplify/straighten needed items in a logical order and location for each retrieval
*Sweep up the space so it is performing in top condition
*Standardize the names, format and location of files
*Sustain the improvement over the long term
In this workshop, we will focus on organizing your electronic files such as: computer hard drives, shared drives, servers and email accounts.
The approach was developed in Japan based on Lean methodology, and is based on the organization of physical spaces like desks, offices, garages, storage lockers, and basements. You can learn more about 5S at http://leansixsigmadefinition.com/glossary/5s/
Bring your laptop and we’ll help you get started. Are your files organized and easy to retrieve already? Share your best practices and experiences with the class!
This workshop is FREE for Hatch members, but only $20 for non-members. If you cannot attend, please let us know so we can gauge interest in offering another workshop.
