IISE Portland Chapter

The IISE Portland Chapter is the Portland, Oregon branch of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), a professional society dedicated to supporting the industrial and systems engineering profession.

After a period of inactivity, the Portland Chapter was officially reactivated in August 2nd, 2016.

As part of the IISE U.S. Western Region, the Portland Chapter collaborates with other professional and student chapters (such as the Oregon State University IISE chapter) to promote the industrial and systems engineering community.

Through these activities, the IISE Portland Chapter aims to foster a vibrant community for industrial and systems engineering professionals in the Portland area, providing opportunities for networking, professional development, and knowledge sharing.

Lean Six Sigma Bursts

We share our takes and thoughts on a variety of topics related to process improvement (specifically Lean and Six Sigma methods), Bursts are rapid improvement activities, so this sounded like a good word to use for these short audio clips. We’ll try to keep them under 5 minutes each.

In this podcast, I share the audio from a video of a speech given by former Nebraska governor and current US Senator, Pete Ricketts. He discusses how Nebraska used Lean Six Sigma to improve their services to residents, reduced costs, building space and time. He encourages the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to utilize a similar approach.
